Birding in Belize
Where to go, when to go, where to stay!
Accommodation for birders in southern Belize
If you are looking for birding accommodation in southern Belize then look no further.  The Lodge at Big Falls is just 25 minutes drive(18 miles/29kms) from Punta Gorda in the heart of Toledo district.
The lodge offers a range of birding packages  and bird watching holidays throughout the year for the novice and experienced birder.
Its central location offers quick and easy access to the richest birding habitats from the broadleaf forest near the western border which is home to the keel-billed motmot, to the savanna grasslands in northern Toledo and the Aguacaliente lagoons just 11 miles away where flocks of woodstork and jabiru, kingfishers, herons and many other species can be viewed from the mile-long boardwalk or canoes.
The intimate family-run lodge offers six individual cottage style cabanas which all look down on the Rio Grande which surrounds the property on three sides. The Lodge offers a full service restaurant and bar, swimming pool, kayaks and river tubing.  A poolside lounger is a great vantage point to view raptors and improve your tan while taking a break after an early morning birding expedition!
The Lodge has an expanding birdlist which now stands at around 220 species oberved on the property.  It contains riparian habitats, orchard, meadow, forest edge and second growth forest and our guests have often seen more than forty or fifty species before breakfast.
